Scotland Of The East

Shillong the capital of Meghalaya, one of the smallest states in India and home to the Khasis. A majestic city situated in the Northeastern part of the country. Shillong is one of the places where I love to travel.
The city has everything which a traveler would love to explore.  Walking around the streets, exploring its food and culture, talking to the locals could be a lifetime impression for you.
To help you make the most of your next visit, here are my favorite 5 things to see and do in Shillong. They will give you a feel for the city.

1.Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians

It is a 20th-century church which is situated at Jackson Trace Road, Laban, Shillong. It is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Shillong and serves as the seat of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Shillong.  This church is very beautiful from inside it has high ceilings,  stained glass windows, and many beautiful architecture that everyone would love to watch. So you cannot miss it if you are walking down the streets at Shillong.

2. Ward’s Lake

This lake is situated in the middle of the city,  this 100-year-old lake is encircled by extensive lush green gardens. As you can see through the picture this park got a nice path through which you will love to walk through. This is quite a tourist destination at Shillong.
if you love to paddleboarding on a lake, then this could be a nice destination for you.

3.Shillong Golf Course

If you really want to enjoy the greenery at Shillong, then this would be the perfect place for you.
It is one of the largest golf courses in Asia and also being natural.
There you will find layers of a green patch of lands along with that you will find mountains in the background. This place is so scenic.

4.Police Bazaar

It’s the main market area of Shillong city. This is the very place where you will finds hotels, restaurants, shopping markets, and other important stuffs. This place is heavily crowded.

5.Elephant Falls

Due to the resemblance of a rock (located just at the foot of the falls) to the elephant, Britishers named the falls as Elephant falls.  The rock was later demolished in an earthquake. This place is soo, Majestic.

You will find a Khasi dress shop near the entrance gate where you can try a rented Khasi traditional dress. And you can have some amazing photographs with them.

This could be a very place where you will love to visit before you head further Meghalaya tour.
